About the mapping

The mapping has two layers, and both matter:

  • The headers (like custom.fiber_types or shopify.color-pattern) are the metafield identifiers in Shopify. They must match exactly, or Shopify won't know which field you mean.
  • The tag → value pairs inside each header translate a product tag into the value its metafield should hold — for example, the tag color-pumpkin becomes orange.

A few things to know:

  • Saved in this browser only. Your mapping doesn't sync to other computers or get shared with anyone else. Use Export JSON inside the editor to save a backup — especially before clearing browser data or switching computers.
  • The default may fall behind Shopify. If new metafields are added in Shopify, the built-in default won't know about them. You'll need to add them yourself in the editor (and re-export to back up your work).
  • Setting up another person. Export your mapping, send them the JSON file, and have them open this tool → Edit ▾ → Import JSON.
⚠️ Before you import this CSV into Shopify

CSV imports overwrite the fields present in the file. There is no undo.

  • Quick backup: Export a full product CSV first — Products → Export → All products → Export products.
  • Full store backup: Duplicate your store or use a third-party backup app before making large changes.

This file only includes products where at least one metafield value changed. Other products and fields are not affected.
